"49 Palmetto"

49 Ave. G
(Owned by Anna-Maria Cannatella and Erin Rodriguez)
A vacant and abandoned building for decades, today this house is being restored for use as an art gallery and studio space for local and regional artists. The style of the house is classic Georgian foursquare with a large central hallway flanked by two rooms on either side. Unique to Florida is the elevated hip roof and the use of broad porches. The home is constructed of tongue-and-groove heart pine which has withstood the test of time. Notable in the simple interior décor are the lovely archway in the front parlor and the back-toback fireplaces with common chimney. It is significant that this lovely historical building could be preserved, yet modified, to serve the Apalachicola community in innovative and exciting ways. The house takes its name from the original name of the road, Palmetto St. Renovation began in 2005.
