Plans are underway for the 18th annual “Historic Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour” sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church. The tour is expected to attract more than 1,000 visitors to Apalachicola, Florida on Friday and Saturday, April 30 - May 1, 2010.

The weekend will begin Friday, April 30, with Evensong at 5:30 pm followed by a lecture at 6:30 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church. Homes will be open to visitors on Saturday, May 1 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Tour tickets will be on sale starting at 9:30 am May 1 for $20. Lunch will be served from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Trinity’s Benedict Hall at a cost of $10. A silent auction, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm, will also be a part of the tour day’s events.

A Second Empire style bay-view mansion owned by Susan and Jim Bachrach has been selected as the featured home of the tour. This architectural gem sits atop a gentle rise on Bay Avenue and provides magnificent views of Apalachicola Bay. The original house, featuring high ceilings and tall dormer windows on the ground floor, was built in 1885. The gabled tower, added in 1999, emphasizes the Second Empire style. The bright, airy rooms display family antiques, colorful art and stylish furnishings.

In addition to the featured home, a number of architecturally or historically significant homes will be included in the tour. The Gibson Inn and the Coombs House Inn will be welcoming visitors, as well. Guests to Apalachicola will want to make time for the many historical buildings and churches, museums, and parks that make Apalachicola such a distinctive community.
